Find yourself a classic Lambretta Scooters in 2012 is a very difficult job in itself unless or course money is no object. There are definatley no fool proof ways of doing it. Firstly you need to decide what condition of Scoot you want, this is of course usually dependant on your budget. I would define Buying a Lambretta scooter into 3 catergories.

1, A fully restored on the road Scooter.

2, A Daily driver on the road but Unsrestored. Or restored a few years ago.

3, A restoration project ranging from a Basket case to Just a frame.

The Big Pitfalls to avoid:

If buying a Fully restored Lambretta you should ask to see. Photos from the beginning to the end of the restoration, See a List of all the NEW parts fitted and have some sort of guarentee,

If Buying a Daily driver you get what you see.

If buying a basket case, you will need to decide if your going to do the work yourself. This sometime mat look a lot more daunting than it actually is. As most parts are available readily and with a basic mechanics tool set can be done on your drive or garage at home. Items some as the frame can just be dropped off at Powder coaters or Paint sprayers etc.

If money is an issue then my advice would be buy a restoration project and do as much work as possible yourself and spread over a period of months or even years this is the most cost effective way to do it. If Money is NOT an issue also buy a restoration project yourself and then Pay for the work yourself from an experienced Lambretta Mechanic/Restorer. Buy some of the Parts yourself also so you Know your buying the best and get the restorer to fit them. Visit very regulary to see how work is progressing. Don't hand over the whole lump of cash for the restoration at the begining. Make an arrangement witht he restorer to Pay as you go. This sort of arrangement is now common place and in most cases suits the restorer aswell.

Purchasing a Lambretta scooter can be costly but over a period of time what you spend on your classic Lambretta may well be recouped in the value of your scoot. Keep all reciepts for work and parts. Shop around for the best value parts going and always check Ebay for bargains.

But most of all enjoy your ownership of YOUR Lambretta.
